24 Hours East of the River - Photography Project

The "24 Hours East of the River" photography project was born out of a need to see more images of Wards 7 & 8 in NE and SE Washington, D.C. and to expose myself and as many other photographers as I could to the vital and vibrant energy of these neighborhoods.

Concieved as a day-in-the-life project, I picked October 19, 2011 as the day. Unfortunately it rained, but about 5 other solo photographers went out into the city at various times. These photos on my blog are all my own, but I hope to share their work with you soon. Until then....

Marvin Gaye mosaic portrait - Nannie Helen Burroughs Ave & Minnesota Ave NE

Wet Weave at Midnight - 200 Block 44th St NE, right outisde my front door. A good start to the project.

Fort Mahan Park after Dark - Taken around 12:30am NE DC

Denny's - My fuel for the morning. Denny's is a vital part of the NE, SE DC area around East Capitol Street. A meeting place, and one of only five sit down restaurants in the entire East of the River community.

Pick 4 - Lottery tickets dot the sidewalks as the unlucky realize Lady Luck is fickle.

Sixth District Police Headquaters NE DC

The Shrimp Boat - East Capitol Street NE DC

Jesus - Churches play a big part of the community. Some would say they do not provide a big enough role in bringing about positive changes. SE DC.

Community Bulletin Board - Often wood power poles become bulletin boards for upcoming party posters and other notices. NE DC.

W4 Bus - crowed in the back with some rowdy teenagers and restless kids, and some tired parents. SE DC

Barbershop - SE DC

Remy Martin - SE DC

Bus Stop at Night - SE DC
